Sometimes surgery is necessary to resolve the overweight problem. This is called bariatric surgery or obesity surgery. What is morbid obesity?
Morbid obesity means “being overweight” to the point that it affects health. The consequences of obesity are far greater than what is generally estimated: diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, orthopedic problems, respiratory problems, sleep apnea, a strong negative self-image, and depression are the most known. Various cancers are also more common in people with morbid obesity such as colon, breast, and prostate cancer.
